Streby Speedway Race Results & Summary from Points Race #2 – May 19th, 2013

Race Results & Summary from Points Race #2 – May 19th, 2013:

Summary:

As a dreary morning seemed to scare off some of the competitors, those who did show up were greeted by increasingly sunny skies, & a beautiful track passing prepared by the Dr. of dirt Michael Streby that gave racers two grooves all day & produced great side by side racing, with tons of passing.

In Qualifying the TRD Motorsports #35 Invader of Allen Terrell set quick time with a lap of 8.39 seconds. Four other drivers would also have career best qualifying efforts.

Heat 1: Had two R.o.Y. candidates on the front row with Charlie Hoag in the strebfest motorsports #39, & Rick Sears in the Sue Streby #99 margay. But it was sixth starting Allen Terrell who was on the move at the drop of the green, as he passed 3 karts on the first lap moving quickly up to 3rd place & had Langley B.C.’s Ed “Buckwheat” Harris in his sights. Harris drifted high in turn 4 on lap 2 allowing Terrell to move into 2nd. But Terrell would break going down the backstretch, & would have to rejoin the field at the tail end. On the restart Sears would pull away, with a great battle for 2nd thru 4th ensued between #21-Harris, #71-Nick Hull, & #35 of Terrell. Hull passed Harris to move into 2nd with 2 laps to go. Then Harris got into the turn 2 tires to bring out the second caution, setting up a green, white, checker finish. Sears pulled away once again for the win, & Terrell would edge out Hull for 2nd in a photo finish.

Heat 2: Saw Arlington, WA’s Tyler Hood on the pole in the TnT Motorsports #17 Bug chassis with Vancouver B.C.’s “Slammin” Scotty Murdoch on the outside. Murdoch got the jump, but Hood was able to power by down the backstretch with the #98K Kenzi Thomas in tow. Meanwhile in what might have been the move of the day saw the #7S of Michael Streby split the #82 of Harry Schaler, & the #91 of Matt Streby coming out of turn 2 three wide to move from 6th to 4th. On lap 3 Thomas drove it in hard under Hood to take the lead, & go on to win her 3rd heat race of the year. Hood would finish 2nd, with the “Fonz” bringing home the #7S in 3rd.

Heat 3: saw the #17 of Tyler Hood lead flag to flag from his 2nd place starting spot. The 98K of Kenzi Thomas got her kart dialed in on the top as she ran the Fonz to perfection passing 3 karts, then chased down the #99 of Rick sears who was running 2nd. the two of them ran side by side for a couple of laps until Thomas finally completed the pass to finish 2nd, with Sears finishing 3rd.

Heat 4: Burlington’s “Haulin” Harry Schaler #82 would lead from the pole position, until mid way through the race he made contact with the turn 4 tire which sent him sideways, & collected 2nd place  the #91 of  Matt Streby who T-Boned Schaler to set him straight but found himself hooked on the inside tire barrier, bringing out the Tyler Weber yellow flag. On the single file restart the #35 of Allen Terrell passed Schaler for the lead going down the backstretch , & would hold on for the win ahead of Schaler, & #7S Michael Streby.

B-Main: The 15 lap B-Main only had 4 karts but was one of the best races of the day. Track owner Jim Streby took the early lead in his #5 XYZ  emmick, but it was short-lived as the #71 the Jamaican national champion Nick “Cool Runnings” Hull passes Streby on lap 3 and checked out for the win. The battle for the last transfer spot was epic as Streby ran the top & the #1 of Scott Murdoch ran the bottom, the two of them ran side by side for 10 laps until Murdoch made the pass in the final corner to finish 2nd & get the last transfer to the A-Main, Streby was 3rd, & the #39 of Charlie Hoag finished 4th.

A:Main: High Points driver Allen Terrell rolled a (6) Inversion on the dice roll, which put rookie driver Rick Sears of Arlington on the pole. Sears may have caught the field sleeping on the start as he got a great start and would lead the first 3 laps, until  Sears slid high in turn 2 handing the lead to the #91 Matt Streby. Streby would lead the next 3 laps until Sears battled back and retook the lead just as the caution waved on lap 8 for the #21 of Ed Harris who once again found himself in the tire wall after trying to make the highside work. After two more yellows for the inside tires in turn 4 being hit onto the track, the #99 started to open up a big lead, but the #35 Allen Terrell started to make his move as he passed the #7S Michael Streby on the bottom, then went up top to get by 2nd place #91 Matt Streby as they ran side by side for a number of laps. Then Terrell slowly started to reel in Sears who all of a sudden missed his marks & slid high with just 2 laps to go allowing Terrell to take the lead from out of nowhere and the win, the #91 of Streby also snuck by Sears to take  2nd place, Sears would hold on to 3rd over a hard charging #17 Tyler Hood who broke away from an amazing battle between himself, the #98K Kenzi Thomas, #7s Michael Streby, & B-Main winner #71 Nick Hull who swapped positions lap after lap. Thomas would round out the Top 5, & Hull would pass Streby on the last lap to come home 6th. Streby would finish 7th (his worst finish in years). Also on the last lap saw contact between the #82 Schaler, & #21 Harris allowing the #1 of Scott Murdoch to move up 2 spots to finish 8th. Harris would finish 9th with Schaler in 10th.

Up next on the calendar is the Innagural race “Memorial Day Mayhem” at Little Rock Raceway on May 27th, then just 5 days later we are back at Streby Speedway for Points Race #3.
